Activities
We have had a busy 2 months. We have had a Biathlon where we ran and biked. We have started Milk in Schools. It is yummy. The whole school went in the Kapa Haka festival. It was fun when we went to Beach Education. We all loved swimming in the sea and playing in the sand on the beach. We have been talking about Pay it Forward in Inquiry. Room 2 have been helping our whanau by being nice and doing things for them. We had an awesome Disco with Funkman. Our Christmas party in Room 2 was the best fun. We played games and had presents and lots of yummy party food. Khani won the pass the parcel. Miharo is fun. Miharo is awesome. ( Mrs Bennett)

It was fun swimming in the sea at Beach Education. We had races. I loved the Disco I was dancing with my friends.

Preschool Tuakana- teina
We love to have the Preschool visit us . They have a story with us and we play together. We help them with things and show them where things are. They like coming to see us all in Room 2 as well.
PMP
We have Diane come and take PMP with us. She is from Flax Rock. We have fun and learn lots of different ways to move with our bodies. We get fit too. I like doing all the exercises best.

Term 3 Buddy Reflection
Cypress and Shy-lamour
Inquiry Keynote presentation.
I talked to everyone (the school) about the 1980's and the clothes that they had then. It was a keynote on the ipad. They had overalls and short dresses and tshirts and jeans and funny togs with spots on them. ( Shy-lamour) As a class we learnt about the 1980's and used google search engine to find out about clothes, games, computers and movies. We made a keynote presentation which we presented as reporting back to the school. ( Mrs Bennett)
Whakapapa Mountain Snow Trip
and Tokaanu Hot Pools 19/9/13
It was cold but I liked the snow. I went up there with my Mum and Dad. I went down the mountain on a sled and threw snowballs at people. I liked swimming at the hot pools too. It was fun. ( Shy-lamour) Off we all went at 7am up to Wakapapa for the mountain snow trip. The kids and whanau and staff were all excited and we had a great time. I had 11 children go and 8 had not been to the snow before. They went down the mountain on sleds and a boogie board and threw snowballs. We then went to the Tokaanu hot pools where they swam for over an hour. What an awesome day.( Mrs Bennett)
The Magpies
I saw the Rugby men. I saw them on TV too. The lady let me hold the flag and another lady gave me two balloons. The shield had silver badges on it. It looked cool. ( Shy-lamour)
I took 4 children up town to see the Magpie's parade. We talked about the Rugby and the shield and how special it was. I explained how that it was 44 years ago, when their Nannys and Koros were young, that the shield was last in Hawkes Bay. I told them that HB had it for 24 games between 1966 to 1969, for 3 years. We met some people that were waiting for the parade that told the children about the shield and how Hawkes Bay won it 8 to 0 from Waikato way back then. We also made connections with other community members eg Twyford School, the lady selling the flags that let the children hold them and the lady who gave the children free ballooons. The children were surprised by the crowds and the band with the bagpipes. ( Mrs Bennett).

School Production 29/8/13
Dynamo Dukebox
I liked the production. I danced with Shontae. I was a lion as well. (Shy-lamour)
The tamariki were amazing. They danced and sang their way through nearly an hour of music from the 1970's, 1980's and 1990's. Even the teachers line danced to Achy Breaky Heart and were zombies toMichael Jackson's Thriller. Miharo Roll n Rolled to music from the 1980's. They did I love Rock and Roll. The lion Sleeps Tonight and Dancing in the Street. What a wonderful performance. ( Mrs Bennett)
Disco 15/8
Me and Khani
We had lots of fun at the Disco. We dressed up and had glow lights. We danced and had games and competitions. We also had a sausage and a drink.
My Dad
My Dad comes into the classroom sometimes. He likes my wiki. He is looking at all my Maths work in my book, I am showing it to him and telling him what I did.
We had an amazing Matariki week at Riverslea school. We started Monday with a Dawn tree planting ceremony and whanau, school breakfast. Tuesday we had a Hakinakina sports day of Maori games with Bridge Pa school. That was lots of fun. Wednesday we helped prepare for the Hangi on Thursday. Thursday we had a huge Matariki festival at the school. The children were amazing with our Kapa Haka and there was a hangi, lots of stalls and other schools and people and whanau visiting. We had Irongate, Whare Tapere, the Line Dancers, Karamu and singers and dancers. Waata was an amazing DJ with the Funkman and PK in charge of music and coordination, sound etc. The hangi was a highlight with 6-8 Dads, Koros and whanau helping out, as well as whanau such as Roberta and Karina with serving. Other whanau helped behind the scenes with all the activities, sausage sizzle for the performers etc. What am amazing successful week. Ka mau te wihi ( Mrs Bennett).

I went down the ramps fast at Sk8zone . I fell off. I didn't cry. Mrs Bennett took a photo of me going down the ramp fast.( Shy-lamour). I supported Shy-lamour to express her experience at Sk8zone. She shared what happened and who she saw there. When I videoed her she was able to extend her ideas orally. She is able to write simple sentences in story writing. The next steps are to extend her word processing skills and spelling.( Mrs Bennett)

Comic Life
I made a Comic Life with my buddy Cypress. I am learning how to put in the pictures and the words. ( Shy-lamour) I supported Cypress and Shy-lamour to see that they were having success. I was not needed however as Cypress knew how to do a Comic Life. Next steps are for Cypress to encourage Shy-lamour to do it independently with limited guidance from her ( Mrs Bennett).

Cypress is my learning buddy. She is helping me to learn new apps on the ipad (Shy-lamour) I assisted Cypress and Shy-lamour and encouraged Cypress to get Shy-lamour to do it for herself after she has shown her. Cypress is helping Shy-lamour to type text into a Book Creator and showing her where the letters are.( Mrs Bennett )

Town Library

I like reading books at the library. Mrs Bennett read books to us. Miss McGrail did too. I liked the cat book best ( Shy-lamour) Shy-lamour enjoyed looking through all the books in the children's section at the library. This visit showed her the books available at the library and she enjoyed listening to the books that were read to her. She also enjoyed reading some books herself. ( Mrs Bennett)
Maths Learning
I can use Maths apps on the ipad to learn how to match and count and know my shapes and colours. ( Shy-lamour) I have taught Shy-lamour how to use different Maths apps on the ipad. She can now practise the concepts that she has learnt. I will now encourage her to challenge herself and try more difficult apps that she may not always get correct at first try. I will start with the addition app where she has to count and find the answer. ( Mrs Bennett)
Turangawaewae
I learnt about Turangawaewae. The bike track, ipads, playground, preschool and our whanau are special at our place. We took lots of photos around the school of our special things and people. ( Shy-lamour) I led and guided an Inquiry about Turangawaewae. Shy-lamour was able to talk about what we did and found out and where to next. She can ask and answer questions about the Inquiry and also think about and develop ideas associated with Turangawaewae. ( Mrs Bennett)

Prizegiving
Shy-lamour got an award for Citizenship at the end of Term one Assembly. She is always kind and showing aroha towards others, She is helpful and works well by herself and in a group. Well done Shy-lamour we are all proud of you ( Mrs Bennett)
Flax Rock
I liked Flax Rock but I was scared I was going to fall down off the wall. ( Shy-lamour) Miss McGrail supported Shy-lamour at first and I explained to her how the rope would keep her safe. She watched others and then gave it a try. I took photos of her trying hard. Well done Shy-lamour ( Mrs Bennett)

I made a movie with Cheyden and Noah and Ebony. It was funny. It was about Transformers. I like doing videos with Shontae. We use funny voices. I like Puppet Pals best cause I can be lots of different people. I am going to practise doing more movies and Puppet Pals ( Shy-lamour) Shy-lamour has more confidence when speaking on an ipad now. She will use different voices and enjoys making puppet pal plays and Book creators. I kept supporting her but she liked to go in a corner with 1 or 2 others and try herself so I let her do it.(Mrs Bennett)

I did a recording of me reading my book after reading. I went outside on the deck cause it was quieter. I am going to do that again.( Shy-lamour) I showed Shy-lamour how to record her reading on Quick voice. She likes listening to herself and often goes outside to record a story now ( Mrs Bennett)

I am having fun with Leah on the ipad. She is helping mewith a Book Creator. I know how to put the words in now. I am going to practise that by myself too ( Shy-lamour) Shy-lamour is more willing to give things a go by herself now and experiment. I am always there to support her and she readily comes to me if she wants help or has a question. ( Mrs Bennett)

The Bike Track
I can go up and down the pump track now. I am slow but I am getting faster. I don't want to fall off my bike ( Shy-lamour) I helped Shy-lamour and kept encouraging her so that she would take a risk and go faster on the PUMP track. She kept perservering and is now confident at going around. She goes on it nearly every day now ( Mrs Bennett)
Swimming
I can swim right across to the other side with a flutter board. I want to go really fast and learn to swim too( Shy-lamour) I gave Shy-lamour tuition to learn to kick across the pool with a flutterboard. She now brings her togs every day and gives it a go. She can nearly go right across the pool now. ( Mrs Bennett)
